How much is a low cost barn?

Many people believe that a pole barn is the lowest priced barn available. This type of barn uses poles that are planted in the ground to provide the structure of the building. The barn consists of a roof placed on top of the upright poles. Many pole barns are open to the elements, limiting their functionality. Other pole barns have wooden spans between the support poles.

It might come as a surprise to many people that a prefabricated steel barn can be built for the same or less price as a pole barn. There are many advantages to a steel barn. A prefab barn kit can be constructed in less time than a wooden barn kit and at a lower cost. Savings come from the lower price of steel and from the elimination of the need for a general contractor and construction crew.

A Quonset prefabricated steel barn is probably the least expensive types of barn. The arched design of a Quonset barn costs 30% than a straight wall barn. The typical cost of a Quonset prefabricated barn is less than $10 per square foot.

The lower cost of a prefabricated steel barn continues after the barn is constructed. Steel buildings require less maintenance than wooden barns. Molding and cracking paint are not a problem in a steel barn. Insurance costs for a steel barn are lower (up to 40%) because the barn will be more resistant to fire, hurricanes and earthquakes. Steel barns are also more energy efficient.

As price per square foot tends to decrease with size, a good ballpark starting point for the price of a 20’ by 20’ arch barn is around $3,400 for the kit, accessories, and a typical delivery distance. Of course, site preparation and footing/slab installation is the usually the responsibility of the buyer.

If you are asking yourself 'How much is a low cost metal barn?' then a prefab metal barn kit is deffinately an option you may want to consider.
