Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB), sometimes refered to as prefabricated or prefab steel buildings process, is a construction method widely used in the United States, as well as in many of the industrialized countries. It consists of a complete steel-framed building system, with components pre-designed to fit together in a vast variety of combinations to meet the unique requirements of specific end uses. P.E.B is idealy suited to permanent installations from around 400 square feet (36 square meters) upwards, for one story and two story construction.
The advantages of pre-engineered compared to conventional steel construction include: improved economy due to factory engineered process - PEB can be upto 40% cheaper than conventional construction; simpler foundation requirements; standardized fixtures (such as dors & windows) that can be interchanged quickly and easily; reduced construction time - typically buildings are erected in a matter of weeks rather than months; fast efficient erection process - upto 20% cheaper than conventional steel construction; modular by design - PEB structures can be changed and extended quickly and easily as and when required.
