Other Cost Considerations
When creating the budget for your metal arch building, other factors should be taken into account, in addition to the price of the Quonset building kits. These consist of:
Building Permits
In the United States and Canada, the cost of a construction permit varies depending on the size and complexity of the building, as well as the location of the project. Small towns may charge as little as $150 for a permit, while larger cities may charge up to $7,500. The average cost of a building permit falls between $550 and $2,000.
Site Clearing and Preparation
The cost of preparing a construction site will depend on the condition of the lot and the amount of work needed to prepare it for the foundation. Quonset hut prices can vary based on location, soil conditions, and local climate. The following are rough estimates based on the size of the building, not the lot size:
- $0.5 to $1.5 per square foot for a small building (less than 1,500 square feet)
- $1 to $3 per square foot for a medium-sized building (1,500 to 3,000 square feet)
- $1.5 to $4 per square foot for a large building (over 3,000 square feet)
Shipping
Shipping fees can run from 2% to 4% of the building cost. Some suppliers include shipping in their prices, so check this before purchasing your building. Delivery is relatively cheap as the building packages do not weigh anything near a rigid frame building and don't take up much space due to the fact that the arch panels come stacked. Most building packages can be delivered on 1 or 2 pallets.
Labor
Labor charges for a professional construction team can run between $3 and $6/sq. ft.
Foundation
Foundation installation prices will vary depending on the type and depth of foundation required, but factor in $4 to $8/sq. ft. foot for this. If you only require a perimeter foundation, these can work out to be approximately 30% cheaper than a full concrete slab.
Customizations
Accessories like windows and doors can add up quickly. Include between $1,000 and $2,000 for overhead garage doors and $500 or so for access doors. Depending on size and configuration, end walls bought from the building supplier might cost between $2,000 and $8,000.
Interior Build-out
Costs for constructing your interior (if required), such as those for insulation, wiring, internal walls, etc., should also be included in the budget. Here are some basic numbers:
- Interior framing & dry walling $8 - $18 per square foot
- Electrical (rough-in) $2 - $6 per square foot
- Plumbing (rough-in) $2 - $6 per square foot
