What are building codes, and why are they important?

International Building Code (IBC)
We used to have THREE principal codes in the United States. Parts of these codes overlapped, but companies still had to take account of all three in their engineering. The federal government created the IBC to simplify matters.
The IBC has been adopted in most areas. Local variations are added, such as wind loads for Florida hurricanes and seismic loads for earthquakes in California.
The IBC is periodically updated, particularly from new information gained after large natural disasters.

What is the difference between zoning and building permits

Will I need a foundation permit?

Foundation plans for larger buildings are typically prepared by the structural engineers specializing in the design of foundations for metal building systems.
